Modern Watercolours - Course

We are so excited that local award-winning tutor and artist Jay Nolan-Latchford, will be running this brand new course with us - it really promises to be a huge treat for anyone wishing to explore their artistic side and learn to paint beautiful modern watercolours.   It's also the next step for anyone who has been to one of Jay's workshops in the past and is keen to take their learning to the next level.    Over the course of 4 expertly constructed art classes Jay will be sharing her extensive experience and taking you through a series of learnings, including keeping a sketchbook, drawing, watercolour techniques, brush skills and wonderful tips to guarantee some great results. Each week will take a look at a different subject, florals, skies, trees, landscapes, perspective to name a few and in the final session you will be painting a beautiful piece 'Home for Summer'.    All materials and equipment provided as well as refreshments with each attendee receiving a sketchbook, pencils and putty rubber to keep.WEEK 1 - AN INTRODUCTION TO DRAWINGIn the first week of the course you will learn all about pencils, paper, rubbers, about keeping a sketchbook, perspective, shading and shape and continuous line drawing.You will take home a sketchbook with 3 or 4 (or more!) completed drawings.WEEK 2 - AN INTRODUCTION TO WATERCOLOURSIn the second week you will learn all about paper, paints, brushes and colour mixing.  You will experiment with the wet on wet and wet in dry watercolour techniques.  You will experiment with creating texture with salt, brush techniques, sponges, sgraffito, powders and also learn to paint skies.You will take home 3 mini watercolour paintings of a blue cloudy sky, sunset and a stormy sky. Additionally test sheets and your sketchbook work.WEEK 3 - THE ART OF LANDSCAPESIn the third week of the course the focus will be on fields and foregrounds, trees and seasons, mountains and creating distance, as well as composition.You will take home a mini watercolour painting of fields, a sheet of 3 or 4 trees and a mini painting of a mountain landscape.WEEK 4 - HOME FOR SUMMERIn the final week everyone will complete a finished modern landscape in watercolour using all of the techniques and skills they've learned so far.  As with all of the weeks there will be step by step demonstrations and lots of 1:1 guidance.
