International Women's Day

It's International women’s Day. I’ve celebrated a few over the years but my favourite quote of all time (and I unashamedly rolled it out again this year) is by designer Coco Chanel.

“A girl should be two things: Who and what she wants”

It won’t surprise you to hear that I always wanted to be an artist. Nothing would stand in my way and every spare minute of my day was spent sketching, making and creating. Once my Dad realised I wasn’t going to be a professional tennis player he took me up to London to meet his old school friend the illustrator Alan Cracknell. It was a life changing moment and my path was set. I went off to art college later that year and my journey started. 42 years later I love it when Alan’s beautiful Christmas card drops through the letterbox.

I think art is wonderful, it takes you to another place it’s a fantastic career but if something else floats your boat, do that. With passion. Be who and what you want.
